Cap City Holds “Letterman” Showcase Sept. 18

On Thursday, Sept. 18, Eddie will be holding a special showcase for some of the best local Austin comics--basically, an audition for “Letterman.”

We here at Cap City are twice blessed the week of Sept.16-20. First, we’re delighted that our headliner that week will be Eddie Brill, a wonderfully accomplished and acclaimed comedian who regularly performs at American and international venues--when he’s on hiatus from his day job(s) at “The Late Show With David Letterman”: Eddie is the warm-up comic for each taping of the show and books all the comedians who perform on “Letterman.” (Click here for more Eddie Brill)

It’s that latter capacity that brings us to the other development that week which has us pretty darn excited. On Thursday, Sept. 18, Eddie will be holding a special showcase for some of the best local Austin comics--basically, an audition for “Letterman.” Eddie rarely hooks such a showcase into one of his headlining weeks, but recognizes that Austin is a hotbed of talent and didn’t want to squander the opportunity to see some of them perform live while he was in town.

The exact line-up of comics and some of the other details are still being finalized, but we do know this showcase will be at Cap City on Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. And we know that this “Letterman” showcase comes on the heels of some other notable, prestigious events hosted by Cap City in 2003, including Comedy Central holding a semifinal round here May 15 of its national stand-up comedy competition, “Laugh Riots,” as well as the producers of “Star Search” presenting a showcase for the CBS show at Cap City on March 10. Not bad, if we do say so ourselves. And we do.

...And Speaking Of Significant Showcases:
HBO/Aspen on Sept. 22

Mere days after this "Letterman" showcase--on Monday Sept. 22, to be precise--Cap City is proud to present yet another major showcase, this time providing an opportunity for local comics to audition for the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, which HBO holds each winter in Aspen. U.S.C.A.F. Talent Executive Bart Coleman will be seeing upwards of a dozen comics that night. The show starts at 8 p.m.
