NEW! Name That Lounge Contest: Set Ups

The “Funniest Person In Austin” was by far the highest-profile, most important contest being conducted in April at good ol’ Cap City, but it certainly wasn’t the only one, buster. Perhaps you’re somehow overlooking the “Name Our Lounge” competition.

Sure, it lacks the history, tradition, and prominence of FPIA, but it was the first of many such contests we plan to hold from the shadowy corridors of the “Special Events & Offers” wing of CapCityComedy.com--and it did intersect FPIA at a couple of points. But before we explain that, we should cut to the chase already.

The winning entry was Set Ups, submitted by Rick Perkins. He actually proposed The Set Up Lounge, but a sub-committee of the decision-making committee opted to alter it, in the same way that the committee informed Perkins that it reserved the right to eventually change the name again, especially to something more Austin-specific. The contest did attract a nice array of possibilities, from The Rathole (which may suggest the lounge isn’t quite as cozy and charming as we think it is) to the alliteration extravaganza Wag’s Whistle Wetter.

And where did this contest connect with the FPIA? Well, FPIA finalist Michelle Biloon entered this competition as well, though with a submission that might have been a little too Austin-specific: Michelle Biloon’s Lounge. Another connection was that Perkins’ won a pair of tickets to the FPIA finals, along with tickets for a group of 10 to see a subsequent show.

A new contest is underway. To find out more, click here.
