Rant Revival
Benefit Feb. 26 Remembers Bill Hicks
In what we hope will be an upbeat, festive evening to mark a distinctly
sad occasion, on Feb. 26--the 10th anniversary of Bill Hicks
passing--Cap City is hosting Rant Revival: An Evening Of Comic
Proportions In Memory Of Bill Hicks. While Cap City is providing
the venue, the show is presented and produced by the Bill Hicks
Foundation For Wildlife Rehabilitation, and proceeds from the event
will benefit the Foundation, a not-for-profit Texas corporation
founded in 1995.
Hosted by comedian Chad Dubril, the multi-faceted evening will include
stand-up, archival footage of Bill Hicks, and a Rant Off,
in which Bill fans--this is limited to amateur comics--will have
three minutes to perform a rant about a socio-political topic
(dont even think about doing a rant on flying,
fast-food, family life, etc). The contest organizers will allow
entrants to select a Hicks topic and give it their own interpretation,
their own spin--provided its an original take; no paraphrasing
of Bill, unless your last name is Leary. The rants will be judged
by a panel that includes Dubril and Sacred Cows Kevin Booth,
who produced many of Bills CDs and other projects. The winner
of the Rant Off will receive a prize package that includes
a Foundation t-shirt and coffee mug, tribute video, as well as videos
and other Bill Hicks merchandise from the Sacred Cow catalog.
The Rant Revival takes place at Cap City on Thurs. Feb.
26 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12. For more information about the event
