It’s a measure of the shifting performance--and
online--landscape that you’ve probably seen some aspect of
Owen Benjamin’s comedy material even if you’ve never
set foot in a club where he was appearing. That is, Benjamin has
created a slew of popular and acclaimed short video pieces--some
placed on the home page of little sites you may have heard of: YouTube,
MySpace--that have been seen online, by one reckoning, by more than
10 million people, and counting. But he’s doing pretty darn
well in the flesh, too. For instance, he’s making steady inroads
in the comedy film world, having landed a modest role in the Adam
Sandler-Kevin James flick, “I Now Pronounce You Chuck And
Larry,” followed by “a larger role in “The House
Bunny,” starring Amma Faris and produced by Sandler’s
company. His other credits include working as a cast member/ hijinks
henchman on “Punk’d” and multiple appearances
on “The Chelsea Handler Show.” And we haven’t
even touched on the music thing: His father is an opera singer,
Benjamin spent his formative years playing classical piano, and
within his comedy career, he’s shared a bill with Julio Iglesias
on one of the latter’s full-blown theatre tours. This week
at Cap City he’ll appear With Eric Nigg.
