J.B.
SMOOVE
If you were to bet that the actor-comedian-writer
known as J.B. Smoove wasn’t born with that name, you’d,
of course, collect on that bet: He came into this world as Jerry
Brooks, but his nom de humor is not only catchy, but pretty darn
accurate--this guy is Smoove. I don’t care how you spell it--Smoove,
smooth, whatever--he projects an enormously easy-going, charismatic
(and damn funny) manner onstage and onscreen, where he’s perhaps
best known as Leon Black on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,”
and has also been frequently seen on “Everybody Hates Chris”
and “Saturday Night Live.” He also worked as a writer
on “Saturday Night Live,” where he received the 2007
Writers Guild of America award for Best Comedy/Variety Series. But
his Smoove Moves have been seen in some high-profile comedy films,
including “Pootie Tang” with Chris Rock (J.B. had done
some guest spots on Rock’s old HBO show) and “Mr. Deeds”
with Adam Sandler. A multi-talented artist who’s been plying
his comedic trade for a number of years now, J.B. Smoove’s
credits also include “Cedric The Entertainer,” “Late
Night With Conan O’Brien,” and such Comedy Central shows
as “Tough Crowd,” “Premium Blend” and “The
Gong Show.” Yeah, the guy really is Smoove, and his appearance
this week at Cap City is truly a Special Event. With John
Ramsay.
