Craig Shoemaker is one of the most popular comedians
on the national comedy club circuit: People flock to see “The
Lovemaster,” his deep-voiced, smooth-talking high-octane Lothario
persona, armed with more come-ons than the slickest used car salesman.
And Shoemaker has turned The Lovemaster into quite a cottage industry--not
only is this lounge-lizard character both the signature and anchor
portion of his stand-up act, but he’s released a number of
comedy CDs (including the latest, “Lovemaster’s Greatest
Bits” and the 1999 release, “Son Of Lovemaster”),
and even wrote and starred in a film called “The Lovemaster”
that picked up a top prize at the 1997 Independent Film Festival
in Los Angeles. But Shoemaker has accumulated a trunkful of credits
and awards that have nothing to do with, well, You Know Who. For
example, he was voted Best Stand-Up Comedian at the 1997 American
Comedy Awards. Noting that past winners of that award have included
Ellen DeGeneres, Jeff Foxworthy and Jerry Seinfield, Shoemaker commented
"I guess this means I'll have a sitcom about a gay red-neck
in a show about nothing." Other credits range from playing
the teacher in “Scream 2” to serving co-host on Magic
Johnson’s late-night talk show, “The Magic Hour.”
